The new Control of Asbestos Regulations came into force last month, updating UK regulations as required by the European Commission to address the perceived shortfall in the UK's implementation of the EU Directive on exposure to asbestos.

The major change in regulations relates to non-licensed work. From 6th April 2012, all non-licensed work needs to be notified to the appropriate enforcing authority and a record must be kept. Anybody carrying out non-licensed work is required to be under health surveillance by a doctor.
