WWM’s recent survey suggests that the biggest challenge currently facing asbestos removal businesses is finding good and reliable employees.

The industry-wide survey carried out over the summer in conjunction with ACAD looked at the challenges facing the asbestos removal industry and in particular those around training and waste. Charts External report covers

Participants were asked to rank a series of issues on a scale of 0 to 5 with 0 meaning not a challenge and 5 meaning a huge challenge. Respondents highlighted that the biggest challenges facing their asbestos removal business were finding good and reliable employees with 85% rating it as a significant challenge (i.e. scoring 3 and over) and 37% rating it as huge challenge (i.e. rating it 5).   This was followed by customer pressures with 74% rating it as a significant challenge and increased competition with 59%.

When asked what were the major challenges facing their asbestos removal business in five years' time, respondents expected to come up against the same three issues.

Graham Warren ACAD Manager said: "It was really pleasing to see many professionals in the asbestos sector taking time out of their hectic schedule to complete this survey. It is vitally important that people make their voices heard be it through this survey or at ACAD regional meetings."
