Over the last couple of months, the Windsor Waste Management team have been planning and implementing a number of upgrades to the technology used within the business. Consumers across the UK are today (Monday 26 October) being urged to “join the fight against Zombie batteries” in a bid to tackle the growing number of fires caused by carelessly discarded dead batteries.

Windsor Waste Management supports the new national Take Charge campaign, which urges consumers to only recycle dead batteries using specialist battery recycling services, and to never throw batteries away alongside general rubbish or other recycling.

The revised EU Waste Framework Directive 2008 requires that from 1st January 2015, member states make arrangements for the collection of waste paper, metal, plastic and glass separately where ‘technically, environmentally and economically practicable’ (known as TEEP) and ‘appropriate to meet the necessary quality standards for the relevant recycling sectors’.

Recognised as a quality assured company, Windsor Waste Management responded to a request from DIY SOS to help the Behan family by providing an enclosed skip for asbestos waste.  The episode of Big Build was shown on BBC1 last week. 

Earlier this year, HSE successfully prosecuted a recycling firm who was stripping lead covered copper cabling for a telecommunications company at a site in London. The recycling company was found to have taken insufficient measures to protect its workers from exposure to lead.

Windsor Waste Management's new asbestos transfer station in Childerditch, Essex has secured 24 hour opening and an increased capacity to the standard permit of 3,650 tonnes per annum.
